I’m a practicing residential designer based in Los Angeles, but we work all over the country – with our second biggest market on the North Shore of Chicago.
We focus on the details. Every detail.
Traditional architecture is a passion of mine and I believe (or hope!) that maybe there are others out there of like mind that would enjoy what I have to contribute on this subject. So, I thought I’d periodically share and show parts of our design process with items that we have reclaimed and replicated from a period long ago lost.
To say that our design methods are custom, or ‘made to measure’, doesn’t even begin to shed light on what we’re trying to achieve here at Virgil W. McDowell Inc. It is the blending of technical and functional knowledge, of items produced long ago in an integrated manner, and of aesthetics, so that the detail becomes couture.
We like to take a curators approach to the overall design process, with a new eye on fine modern living.

I love your design style! I love everything from the wonderful garden tent to the chinoisserie statues (one wearing a charming paddy hat).
Do you have a line of products already in showrooms, or are they custom made for each project? I could not click on the items you listed under products.
Good luck on your new blog.
